How about some lovely facts about my favourite phylum - the echinoderms (aka the sea stars!)
ReplyDelete1. They move using a water vascular system! (little tubes pump water pressure through their limbs and tube feet to get movement)
2. If you cut off one of their limbs (or many) they can regenerate them (as long as their center ring isn't cut up)!
3. Leather stars smell like garlic!
Fun!
Random?! ok.

ReplyDeleteFacts...
ReplyDeleteThere are over 147 million orphans in the world. If 3 families from every church in America adopted 1 child there would be no more orphans.
Also
In Eastern Europe children who live in an orphanage with special needs even as correctable as a cleft palate or something as beautiful as down syndrome go to an adult mental institution at the age of 5 to die. 98% of the children with DS only last a few weeks there.
Just some real facts. Hard facts to swallow but true. can our generation make a difference?
Be blessed

being OCD actually has nothing to do with organization. It's actually about doing things like closing a door twice every time you enter a room because of the fear that something terrible will happen if you don't.
ALSO
each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history: king david is spades, alexander the great is clubs, charlemange is hearts, and julius caesar is diamonds.

ReplyDeleteRandom fact: During the 1950s and 60s, Inuit Art was very, very popular. At the same time, the Canadian government was re-locating the Inuit peoples throughout the North. One particular man's Art was being showcased all over Europe, and people loved it. Meanwhile, he and his family had been re-located to an uninhabitable part of the North and were dying of starvation. Not a very happy random thought, sorry. I study Inuit History. It's the only fact that came to mind.
And I'm tweeting right now.

Whether you’re at Disney World or any of the other theme parks, everywhere you look there are Mickey Mouse Ears. And no, not the merchandise ears. From the shape of the pizza to the hedges to the ears hidden in the tiles, Mickey’s iconic ears are everywhere thanks to Walt’s desire to add to the magic of the kingdom.
ReplyDeleteMickey Mouse's original name was Mortimer but Lillian convince him to change "Mortimer" to "Mickey.
The angle of Mickey's Ears is exactly 105 degrees, the same angle as the bonds in water
In all Mickey Mouse cartoons, no matter which way Mickey is looking his ears are always facing forward. You never get an ear profile.

Here is my random fact: The red in the sky during dawn and dusk is caused by scattering of the sky radiation. During mid day, the sun is straight towards the sun and the light can get through the atmosphere. During morning and night, its at a tilt and the blue in the radiation scatters throughout the atmosphere and nearly only red gets through, hence red skys at night and pink in the morning.

Here's a random fact I learnt years ago but has stuck with me since:
ReplyDeleteWe are literally made from stars. Every element that is heavier than hydrogen actually originates from stars that exploded in their dying phase.
For example the iron in our blood comes from stars. We are all made from everything that has existed before us. It's kinda heart-warming in a way :) x
